a bit about how this whole thing started:
Hi, I'm Janet! I'm an architect by day and a photographer, knitter, and home cook by night. I've recently moved back to my home state and am based in Austin, Texas.
I learned to shoot 35mm film on a Nikon FM-10 when I was 13 years old. It was purely a hobby to start, but eventually I got a digital camera and started taking more photos of family and friends. This snowballed into taking senior pictures in high school, and then I became a wedding photographer as a side job during college. I was shooting up to 10 weddings a year while juggling coursework--met a lot of great people, learned a lot, and drank a LOT of coffee.
Then architecture school sent me to New York and Paris, and I took a break from booking sessions. During all that travel, I found myself reaching for my trusty FM-10 again. After years of being in a photography space that required rapid response, packed schedules and high energy, it reminded me to shoot carefully and intentionally. With that mindset, I moved to San Francisco 7 years ago and began booking sessions again and shooting them on both film and digital. Then, family and life drew me back to my home state, which brings us to present day in Austin!
shooting with me
Okay enough about my life story...what's a session with me like, you ask? My end goal is always to authentically capture my clients. Every person is unique, and I make sure that's expressed through the photography medium, lens selection, location choice, outfit coordination, posing, and everything between. I'll be with you every step of the way to make sure the session goes smoothly, feels natural, and that you have a good time along the way! That could mean giving a steady stream of posing direction throughout the entire session, reviewing mood boards you send before the session to get a feel for your aesthetic, or acting a fool to get some candid laughs during your session.

Let's document your story.
